Skating Lessons Available with PSA Master Rated Coach and Choreographer Doug Mattis

We are proud to announce that Doug Mattis will be available for private lessons at the Rec-Plex September 24-26, 2017.

Doug's bio is below, but he can best be described as someone who puts the icing on the cake and adds the sparkle! Skaters may remember Doug from when he was in St. Louis in April 2016 as a coach for our Grassroots to Champions Seminar! Doug teaches innovative and creative moves, adds flair to programs, helps the skater to connect to their program and music and therefore to the judges and audience, and most importantly, helps to give the skaters the confidence to do all of these things. Skaters do not need to have a program to benefit from time with Doug. He will work on all things skating!

Lesson Details
Doug's coaching fees are $47.50 for 30 minutes and $95 for 60 minutes. Skaters can have private lessons or they can share with either two or three skaters splitting a lesson time. The coaching fee is still the same with the skaters splitting the cost evenly.

How to Sign Up

Doug Mattis ending his successful amateur competitive career with a backflip at Nationals turned out to be only the beginning. After a ten years of touring the world, starring in thousands of performances and several TV shows (such as Scott Hamilton’s “Upside Down”), winning pro competitions—and producing ice shows himself—Doug began to coach and expand his creativity beyond the surface of the ice.

He worked as a writer for Universal Studios and Disney, published articles and books as a humorist, and had one of the top-rated blogs on the Internet.

In the past ten years, Doug has re-branded himself as an ally to those seeking personal development, organizational enrichment, and creative, exceptional achievement. Working with organizations such as Figure Skating in Harlem, Skate For Hope, and The Michael Weiss Foundation, Doug has been building his brand as a networker in the direction of, as he puts it, “giving back.” He co-produced the first three seasons of “Young Artists Showcase” with Audrey Weisiger; a non-profit online skating competition designed to inspire the next generation of choreographers and creative individuals.

Mattis feels fortunate to have worked with some of the brightest talent in skating, having taken skaters consistently to US Nationals at all levels in men's, ladies’, and pairs events--with podium finishes in pairs and ladies. He's also worked with the top professional show producers amd choreographers, lending his creative help to productions and talents from Bietak, Foster, Ice Theater of New York, and packaging new talent for personal consideration by Disney.

Innovation and a paradigm shift-approach are of primary interest to Doug as an artist...but connecting performers with material in the most deeply personal way is critical to him. He believes when choreography is at once the embodiment of the music and performer, they combine to sing with honesty and resonance. And...that experience is compulsory to having a performer push themselves and grow in transformation. “I believe deeply that skating has the power to enrich young lives and provide skills and values that kids will use to be happier, healthier adults.”

Pigtails 4 Peace Fundraiser - Thank you!

The St. Peters Rec Plex recently lost a skater to bullying. Destiny Gleason was 14 years old, and had recently relocated with her family to Warrenton. A group of middle school girls tormented and bullied her to the point that she took her own life. It is an extremely tragic story, one that deserves our support and attention.

Destiny Gleason

St. Peters Figure Skating Association would like to thank everyone who participated in our "Pigtails 4 Peace" fundraiser. We were able to raise over $800 for Destiny's family. If you missed the opportunity to participate, you can still make a donation directly at https://www.gofundme.com/2m9rmd9w. Please mention "SPFSA-Pigtails 4 Peace" in the comments section.

Thank you again for standing up against bullying. Fly high Destiny!

If you or someone you know is being bullied, speak up, reach out and let's put a stop to bullying.
